Talk: Who built Britain’s railways and did they get it right?
Friends of Swindon Railway Museum – 2023 Lecture Programme
Colin Divall – Who built Britain’s railways and did they get it right?
16 October at 19:00pm
The great Victorian engineers like the Stephensons, Locke and Brunel get much credit for building Britain’s railways, but many other minds were involved in planning, promoting constructing and regulating the network. In this talk, Colin Divall argues that what we got was also a reaction to the messy reality of Victorian railway politics, so not as good as it could have been! Are there learnings for railway policymaking today? Did the Engineers get it right?
Both Members and non-Members are welcome to attend the talk.
A small, voluntary donation to the Friends of Swindon Railway Museum would be appreciated.
